A Sligo Councillor is warning that many of the challenges recently highlighted by the president of the President of Munster Technological University are seriously impacting third level students in the North West.
Prof Maggie Cusack referenced a number of concerning challenges that students are facing.
In an interview with the Irish Times she cited Central Statistics Office figures which stated that 70,000 people left Ireland last year due to a lack of career opportunities, housing and an increased cost of living.
She also warned that students, particularly those attending TUs outside Dublin, are hampered by the inadequate transport infrastructure alongside the nationwide lack of affordable student accommodation.
Sligo Fianna Fáil Councillor Edel MacSharry says students in the North West have to overcome many obstacles when it comes to third level education.
