A Sligo Councillor is expressing concern with the waiting times that candidates have to wait before they can sit their driving tests
Waiting lists for driving tests are up to seven months in some parts of the country.
The data has been published in the Irish Times and states that there is currently a 23 week waiting time in Donegal while the figures in Sligo and Leitrim are 16 and 17 weeks respectively.
Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says the latest figures are bad news for young people in the north west that need their cars to travel to and from work or college.
Cllr Healy says efforts should be made to reduce their waiting times in areas where there is inadequate public transport available as an alternative.
