A local FORSA representative has given a cautious welcome the new agreement that will see all school secretaries transfer to a new pay-scale aligned with the public service clerical officer scale.
The trade union which represented the school sectaries, FORSA negotiated the deal.
It's thought the new deal significantly improves incomes and paid leave arrangements for low-paid secretaries who will not be required to sign on during school holidays.
Frank Considine is a FORSA member and a school secretary based in Manorhamilton he says the Department of Education could have done more for secretaries in relation to pension entitlements and other issues.
