Local Green Party members shock as Eamon Ryan to step down

Green party members locally have been expressing their shock over news that party leader Eamon Ryan is to step down.

He's due to make a formal announcement shortly.

It is expected that Eamon Ryan will continue on in his role as Environment and Climate Minister when he steps down as Green Party leader.

He has led the party since 2011.

Chairperson of the Donegal Green Party Michael White feels that there wasn't pressure on Eamon Ryan to step aside and these developments come as a surprise.

Party representative Johnny Gogan, who recently ran in the local elections in the Sligo Strandhill LEA, says he's surprised by Minister Ryan's decision, and described him as the best Transport Minister in the history of the state.
