Local success at BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition

Local success at BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition

There was success for students across the north west at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition when the awards were announced at the RDS on Friday evening.

 

Three awards went the way of Ursuline College, Sligo while both Sligo Grammar School and Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town both received an award each.

Aoife Fadian, Jessica O’Connor, who are students at Ursuline College received two awards for their project.

 

‘Sheep Strength’: Using wool to reinforce concrete was the overall group runner-up while they also received the Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland Award.

Fellow Ursuline College student Amber McDonald won the The Jack Restan Displays Award for her project entitled ‘Energy Crisis? – Let me kelp you! – A novel solar desalination method to extract clean water, fertilizer and biochar from our coastal resources’

 

Michael Concannon, who’s a student at Sligo Grammar School finished second in the Intermediate individual social and behavioural sciences category with his project ‘Art. Is it worth it?’

 

While the Abbey Vocational School received a display award in the health and wellbeing category with Isla Buchanan’s ‘Menopause? How much do you know?’
