A Sligo Leitrim TD has rowed in behind calls on the Government to support families who are struggling with back to school costs.
People who have one child in school and who have a combined income of €620 or more per week don't get any assistance in terms of Back to School clothing and footwear allowance
Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says he has been contacted by families in both Leitrim and Sligo who are deeply concerned about how they will manage to meet these costs and stay on top of their basic bills as well.
Deputy Kenny is calling for the eligibility for the allowance to be widened to include middle income earners and says it would make a huge difference to communities' right across the North West:
