Lough Swilly RNLI responded to a false alarm yesterday after a distress flare was launched.
The red flare was spotted off the coast, and was brought to the RNLI's attention by a member of the public.
Upon launching, the crew discovered that all was well.
Lough Swilly RNLI have reminded the public that marine distress flares should only be used at sea where there is a vessel and its crew in immediate danger, and that their sighting will prompt a search and rescue operation.
