Letterkenny IT has received funding for a large extension to the campus.
As part of the National Plans for Institutes of Technology, it includes the construction of a new 5100sqm library and General Education Building which will have a learning resource centre, IT and innovation labs, online learning rooms and classrooms.
The extension is due to go to tender early next year while €1.8m was also recently given to the Killybegs Campus for the modernisation of the main building.
Donegal Fine Gael TD, Joe McHugh says ITSligo, LYIT and GMIT will be submitting their application at the end of this year for university status.
Speaking to OceanFM News, Deputy McHugh says the extension is an important step in this process.
