A total of almost €1.2m has been announced in rural regeneration and development funding for the towns of Ballisodare in County Sligo and for Drumshanbo in County Leitrim.
Ballisodare is to get €580,000 while almost €600,000 has been allocated to Drumshanbo.
The €580,000 going to Ballisodare is for the development of the Sally Gardens area, made famous in the Yeats poem, Down By the Salley Gardens.
Plans for Ballisodare include a new town park, off-street parking, pedestrian routes, traffic management and a river trail.
Independent Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly says the project will transform the town, which has grown significantly in recent years.
