Major interest in butcher apprenticeship scheme

More people are returning to their local butchers to buy their meat.

And this means a need for more expert butchers.

Earlier this month, Education Minister and Donegal TD launched a new National Craft Butcher Apprenticeship.

While there has long been apprenticeships for training carpenters, plumbers, plasterers, electricians, hairdressers and a host of other trades, no such apprenticeship existed for butchers.

But that has now changed.

Sean Burke, area training manager with Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board, has been telling Ocean FM's Harry Keaney about the new butchery apprenticeship.
