A man accused of sending threatening messages to three TDs, including Sligo Leitrim's Martin Kenny, has been found not guilty.

Cork TD, Fine Gael's David Stanton, and retired Independent TD, Tipperary's Seamus Healy, were the other representatives targeted.

Joseph Ballantine of Borrisoleigh, Co. Tipperary, was facing five charges, but was found not guilty by direction of the court after it transpired that a previous warrant to search his home was invalid.

Two of those five charges were in relation to drugs, and the warrant to search Mr. Ballantine's home was executed. The drugs charges related to possession and cultivation of cannabis.

It was heard in court that there was no jurisdiction to issue the search warrant at the time, making it invalid, leading to Mr Ballantine being found not guilty on all charges.

Among the threats made to Deputy Kenny was that it was hoped that he and his Sinn Fein colleagues would be "executed like they dogs they are".

Other messages saw Deputy Kenny branded a "traitor" after he spoke in favour of offering accomodation to asylum seekers and refugees. Messages were also sent referencing his four children.

Deputy Kenny declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Ocean FM News.
