Man charged with Sligo fatal assault remanded in custody

A man charged with the fatal assault of a woman at her home in Sligo has been remanded in custody.

The body of Angela Canavan was discovered at her home at St John’s Terrace on 1 May 2023.

38-year-old Nigel Canavan of Erris Gardens, Erris Street, Crossmolina, Mayo appeared at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court this morning.

Mr Canavan was arrested at Erris Gardens at 4pm yesterday afternoon.

Judge Michael Connellan granted legal aid and set the date for the next hearing.

Mr Canavan was remanded in custody and is due to appear again at Sligo District Court on Thursday via video link.
