Manorhamilton property will continue to house those fleeing the war in Ukraine

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Claim that they have not received an offer of accommodation in relation to properties situated in Manorhamilton for people seeking International Protection.

In a statement to Ocean FM The Department say they are not are not currently examining the Priest House, on Sheain Mhic Dhiarmada Street, Manorhamilton, for such purposes.

The statement says that the property is currently undergoing refurbishment as part of the Emergency Refurbishment Ukraine Programme overseen by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Confirmation has been provided that the property has been offered to provide accommodation for people fleeing the war in Ukraine, and that the capacity will be for 16 people.

The Department claim that a contract will not be entered into by the Department for this property until the refurbishment works are completed, and all necessary statutory and regulatory requirements are met, and other terms of contracting are met.

The statement concludes by adding that due to a reduction in the number of people arriving from Ukraine, as well as an increase in those exiting State accommodation, the State is reducing its overall accommodation stock.

Therefore it is likely that those who are accommodated at Priest House, will be re-accommodated from accommodation where a contract has ended and, where possible, people will be accommodated in the same area.
