Sinn Fein's Martin Kenny believes two seats for his party is now distinct possiblity in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency.
As the tallying of votes continued in the Clayton Hotel on Saturday, Kenny told Ocean FM that both he and his running mate, Chris MacManus were in contention to take two of the four seats available.
He said: "We have managed (the vote) well - and we are in a place where we could take two seats".
Kenny, who topped the poll in Sligo-Leitrim in the 2020 election is expected to be returned.
Ocean FM's Exit Poll on Friday also points to Eamon Scanlon (FF) and Frank Feighan (FG) being well placed for seats.
However, the destination of the fourth and final seat is far from clear at this stage, with Michael Clarke (Independent Ireland), Marian Harkin (Ind) and Edel McSharry (FF) all in contention.
However, Harkin's first preference vote, according to tallies to date, appears to be down - so she faces a battle to hold onto her seat.
