The new Mayor of Donegal Town says it's "deeply disappointing" that planning permission for a new cinema in the town has been rejected.

A planning application was lodged earlier this year with Donegal County Council for a cinema that would be able to seat 714 people.

The development also contained parking spaces for almost 160 cars as well as a petrol station, shop and a restaurant.

However the application for the development has now been turned down over fears for increased traffic volume in the area.

Mayor of Donegal Town Pauric Kennedy says he hopes the decision can be overturned eventually:

Meanwhile over one thousand people have signed an online petition in a bid to overturn the planning decision.
