McConalogue tipped to become Ireland’s new EU Commissioner

Charlie McConalogue, the Minister of Agriculture, is one of the contenders to become Ireland's next EU commissioner.

The representative for the new European College of Commissioners is to be appointed in the coming months and Fianna Fáil is expected to choose the representative.

According to reports in the Farming Independent, the Irish dairy industry is also preparing to persuade top government ministers in a bid to secure the Environment Commissioner portfolio in the upcoming reshuffle of the European Commission.

It'll all depend on current Finance Minister Micheal McGraths interest in the role though, following Fianna Fáil's strong election performance.
