A meeting is expected to take place in the coming weeks between Sligo County Council and the waste collection company Greenstar about setting up a hazardous waste centre in Sligo.
There is a hazardous waste drop-off centre in Tubbercurry in South Sligo.
But Sinn Feinn Councillor Thomas Healy says there's a need for such a centre for people in the north Sligo and Strandhill Areas.
He says it's a facility that's being sought for some time.
