A memorial plaque is to be unveiled this afternoon outside of the home of Liam Farrell.

The late Mr Farrell’s body was found at the back of the family home where he lived alone in January 2020.

It was reported earlier this week that one of the last people to speak to Liam Farrell in Reynolds Pub in Rooksey on January 11, 2020 was left concerned by the meeting she witnessed between the popular local farmer and another man the witness was unable to identify.

An inquest held in September of last year returned an open verdict, which meant that the jury could not be satisfied as to the actual circumstances surrounding the death.

Ann Vaughan claims the 87-year-old farmer was in the company of a man she had never seen before and who left her with a “bad feeling”.

On the fifth anniversary of his passing, his family are hopeful that someone in the local community has information that could help with their quest to discover what led to their father's death.

The family will today unveil a memorial plaque at his home to honour him and appeal for public information.

The plaque will be unveiled after Mass in Bornacoola at 12 noon, with family and friends attending.
