The Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal has called on developers not to be hoarding land but to build houses it.
Damien English made his comments during a visit to Sligo yesterday when he met with county council officials and councillors.
Outlining details of a new plan to tackle homelessness, he said there was a need to provide 25,000 houses a year by 2019/2020.
But he said it had to be sustainable housing, not boom and bust like they had before.
And, speaking to Ocean FM, he says the government will use a carrot and stick approach to get developers to build on land they hold:
