Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, has closed the abbatoir at the centre of the latest RTÉ Investigates scandal.
The abbatoir, located in Straffan in Co. Kildare, is the country's only equine slaughterhouse, and multiple examples of animal abuse were highlighted there in a special programme aired last week.
Investigations by Department of Agriculture officials and An Garda Síochána are ongoing.
Minister McConalogue previously spoke in the Dáil on the matter, describing the abuse as shocking, appalling and absolutely unacceptable.
