The new Minister for Mental Health has committed to coming to Sligo to meet with parents concerned about the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

The CAMHS in the North West currently has just one psychiatrist working 20 hours a week even though there should be two more full-time psychiatry posts filled.

It means the backlog to get an assessment has escalated to years.

Yesterday a delegation went to meet the new Minister Jim Daly.

Sinn Fein Councillor in Sligo Thomas Healy attended the meeting and says they were happy with his committment to come to the North West:

Meanwhile,

Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry had his first run in with the new Taoiseach on the CAMHS issue in the Dail yesterday.

During leader's questions, the Sligo Leitrim TD asked Leo Varadkar what he would do to tackle the waiting list of over 400 patients waiting to see a psychiatrist in this region.

However, he was not impressed with the Taoiseach's response accusing him of using Dublin figures:
