The Minister for Education has confirmed his support for the effort to prevent a Sligo secondary school from closing.
St Mary's College in Ballisodare had been set to close in three years time.
But following a meeting with parents and campaigners, Minister Joe McHugh says he is committed to help find a new patron for the school.
Such a move would provide the opportunity for the school to increase its student numbers, which would guarantee its long-term future.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Minister McHugh says it's obvious there's a strong community desire to keep the school open:
