A plan to build modular homes exclusively for Ukrainian refugees in Sligo when there's 1500 people on the social housing list in the county will do nothing to promote solidarity.
That's the view of Independent Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry who made the comments in the Dail last evening.
Deputy MacSharry also made reference to the fact that it's currently more financially beneficial for refugees to come here as opposed to other countries.
While acknowledging that it's a sensitive issue, Deputy MacSharry says the figures speak for themselves and it's understandable why frustration is growing among the general public.
He says Ireland should be doing all it can to help in the crisis, but it's also important to not take our own people for 'fools':
