A local Irish teacher believes that while plans to sit some leaving cert exams in fifth year are good on paper, a lot more discussion is needed around it.
It comes as its been confirmed that the sitting of Leaving Cert English and Irish Paper One at the end of fifth year will not now go ahead.
The plan was aimed at easing exam pressure in sixth year, but teachers and students representative groups opposed the move.
Education Minister Norma Foley will tell Cabinet this morning she's heard their concerns, and won't go ahead with the change for 2024.
Teacher and Sligo County Councillor Marie Casserly says the plan is good in principle but there's a lot of aspects that have yet to be explored:
