The murder of Sligo man Damien Conlon in Australia has sent shockwaves through New South Wales.
That's according to the Deputy Mayor of Bathurst Regional Council Ben Fry who says incidents such as these are very rare in the area.
Mr. Conlon, who is originally from Sligo town, was shot dead on Thursday following an incident at a house in Oberon.
A 57-year-old man was arrested at the property, charged with murder and refused bail to appear in Bathurst Local Court.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance in relation to the tragedy.
