NCT plans for tractors 'up in the air' as Minister does U-turn

The Minister for Transport has been forced into a U-turn on legislation passed just last month on tractor testing.

Shane Ross promised farming groups that they would be consulted before any changes to the criteria for ensuring tractors are roadworthy come into effect.

However he proceeded to sign the necessary documentation into law last month without any consultation.

There was a public outcry from farmers on the issue forcing Shane Ross to meet with them yesterday.

As the law is already in place it will have to be annulled.

Galway Roscommon Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice has a motion down in the Dail to ensure this is set aside until all stakeholders have been consulted:

Menawhile Farming organisations are welcoming the move.

They state all commercial tractors should be exempt.

Patrick Rohan of the Irish Creamery and Milk Suppliers Organisation says introducing an NCT is 'pure madness' and will put farmers under further financial pressure:
