Alcohol in the Republic will cost 40% more than the North following the introduction of minimum unit pricing.
The new minimum pricing unity was passed by cabinet yesterday and was brought forward by the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly and the Minister for state at the Department of Health, Sligo/ Leitrim TD Frank Feighan.
The Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association, says the move will fuel cross border shopping.
Minimum unit pricing will come into effect in January 2022
It means a bottle of wine will have to cost at least 7 euro and 40 cent, while a bottle of spirits cannot be sold for under 20 euro.
