New book on Civil War in Sligo and Noble Six to be launched this Friday

A new book on the Civil War in Sligo and events leading up to the deaths of Sligo's Noble Six on Benbulben Mountain in 1922 is to be launched this coming Friday afternoon.

It's entitled 'Even the Heath Bled' by well-known Mullaghmore-based author and historian Joe McGowan.

Research for the book was also carried out by Des Gilhawley, son of the late Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Eugene Gilhawley.

The book, which will be launched at 4:30pm in Easons in O'Connell Street, also has a 40-page photo section.

Joe McGowan says that as he traced the trail of history that led to the deaths of the Nobel Six on Benbullben, he found himself going back as far as the Norman invasion in the late 12th Century.
