New custody facilities should be in place at Sligo Garda Station early next year.

The current cells at the station in Sligo town have been closed since October 2016 and prisoners have to be transported to Ballymote for questioning.

There are plans for a brand new station headquarters in the region but that is at least 5 years away.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken says interim measures are needed and funding has been secured for these custody facilities.
