New elective hospital will be beneficial but concerns remain - Gilroy

It's thought that the planned elective hospital will hugely beneficial for people in Sligo Leitrim and Donegal, despite being located in Galway.

 

However, concern remains that the move may result in highly skilled medical staff here relocating to the west.

The development of the elective site at Merlin Park University Hospital is set to support the separation of scheduled and unscheduled care, reduce cancellations and address lengthy waiting lists for elective procedures.

 

It's hoped that it will ultimately lead to better patient outcomes for those in the North West.

Fianna Fail Cllr and Member of the Regional Health Forum West Donal Gilroy says while it would be great to have such a facility on our doorstep, he's confident that the new facility will make a huge difference:
