New Emergency Department announced for Sligo

The Taoiseach has announced a new ward block and emergency department for Sligo University Hospital.

Leo Varadkar made the announcement during the launch in Sligo today of the government’s 116 billion euro development plan for Ireland for the next 20 years.

He says it’s just one example of the major investment that’s proposed for healthcare in the country:

Meanwhile, as the Taoiseach spoke, there were 56 people on trolleys at Letterkenny University Hospital and 14 in Sligo University Hospital.

It’s situations like this, as well as the need to cut waiting lists for health and housing, that these protestors were highlighting during the cabinet’s visit to Sligo today:
