New Policing Bill 'a backward step'

Concern has been raised over the new Policing Bill with elements of legislation described as a backward step.

The comments were made by Independent TD Thomas Pringle who fears that a new internal board won't be as transparent as it was.

One of the key aims of the Bill is strengthening and consolidating independent, external oversight of An Garda Síochána

But Deputy Pringle warned that the plans will ultimately result in policing being re-politicised and that he fears will prove detrimental:
