A new scholarship programme for children from disadvantaged areas will be named after a Donegal professor.
The first bursary will be worth €5,000 each year and will be called after Prof William C Campbell who is an 88-year-old Donegal scientist.
Pro Campbell developed a successful treatment for a condition known as river blindness.
It will be open to students who have completed their Leaving Certificate at a DEIS school - which is a school in a disadvantaged area which gets extra state supports and are starting an undergraduate programme this year.
