Advocates for the protection and promotion of heritage in the north west are today welcoming the launch of a long-awaited government strategy for the sector.
Heritage Ireland 2030 sets out what it describes as 'a joined-up approach' involving government, stakeholders and local communities to advance the protection of the country's heritage at local and national level.
An implementation plan is now being developed to ensure delivery of the actions outlined in the plan that covers an array of sites and items, including monuments, protected structures, archives, museum collections, heritage gardens and parks.
Siobhan Ryan, heritage officer with Sligo County Council, is welcoming the new strategy.
