The new surfing centre in Strandhill can help re-energise the local tourism sector as it looks to return to normal following the Covid 19 pandemic. That’s according to Sligo Strandhill Councillor Sinead Maguire.
Ireland's first national surfing centre which will be located in Strandhill is among seven new tourist attractions due this year to coincide with a return of visitors to these shores as the Covid-19 restrictions wind down.
According to Fáilte Ireland, the mixture of new and revamped projects spread across five counties will attract about 400,000 visitors over the next five years and support an additional 8,000 jobs in the sector.
The national surf centre at Strandhill, Co Sligo is considered a “new departure” for tourism development and is believed to have the potential to develop as a world class surfing destination and will significantly enhance the tourism potential of Sligo.
The Centre is expected to open in September and will include visitors and specialist schools.
