New Text Alert schemes will strengthen links between Gardaí and Communities, it's claimed

It's hoped that the establishment of new text-alert schemes will help bring communities together as well as encouraging greater co-operation between local people and the gardai.

Those are the views of Councilor Thomas Healy who was commenting after the establishment of two new text alert groups, in the Collooney, Ballinacarrow areas of County Sligo.

Some messages may include notifications from the Gardaí, Met Eireann and messages that help keep the community better informed.

Cllr Healy says the meetings provide an opportunity for local people to raise concerns that can be brought to the Joint Policing Committee meetings.
