No change for Sligo in latest IBAl Report

Sligo town has retained a Top Ten standing in the latest publication of Ireland’s cleanest towns and City’s.

The information has been published by business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).

Once again Naas has been selected as Ireland’s cleanest town.

The latest report claims that a fall in plastic bottles and cans on our streets, brought about by the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), was not enough to reduce overall litter levels in Ireland last year.

The reports found Sligo town to be again cleaner than European norms, and ranked it in joint 7th position, down from 3rd in 2023.

The An Taisce report for Sligo found seven out of the ten survey sites getting the top litter grade - these included JF Kennedy / Rockwood River Walk, Atlantic Technological University, the approach roads and O’Connell Street which the report said was particularly freshly presented and maintained main shopping street environment with all aspects in very good order.

There were no heavily littered sites.

Overall litter levels were on a par with 12 months ago.

In all, 60% of the towns and cities surveyed were deemed ‘clean’. Galway replaced Waterford as the cleanest city.
