Non-essential travel needs to be addressed

A Sligo Leitrim TD says that consideration may have to be given to providing the Gardai with additional powers when it comes to non-essential travel.

 

Presently anyone caught travelling abroad for a non-essential reason can now be fined 500 euro.

However Gardaí currently do not have the power to arrest non-essential travellers.
