5pm Update:
The North West has escaped the worst of the weather so far but Councils are braced for more freezing temperatures this weekend.
While Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have got away with less snowfall that other parts of the country, the Councils say temperature are set to remain very cold over the coming days.

1pm Update:
Councils in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are continuing to monitor road conditions this morning.
Councils have been carrying out their usual winter gritting operation which was not really disrupted at all due to the fact that the red alert
But all back roads will not have been gritted and people are urged to drive with extreme care if you have to go out today.
Senior roads Engineer with Sligo County Council Tom Brennan says about 2inches of snow fell in the county last night with the Tubbercurry area worst affected:

Brendan O'Donnell is the Senior Roads Engineer with Donegal County Council.
He says it has been a case of normal winter conditions for Donegal and while some northern parts of the county had heavy snow showers there was little snow in most of the county:

Shay O'Connor, Senior Roads Engineer at Leitrim County County says Leitrim too escaped the worst.
They have been able to grit all main roads and they are now turning their attention to as many of the local roads as possible:
