A number of motorists in the north west have been detected exceeding the speed limit as part a major national clampdown into the issue.
On Friday morning, two drivers were caught speeding in Donegal.
One driver was clocked travelling at 128km/h and another at 124km/h both in a 100km/h speed limit area by the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit.
A few hours later, a driver was issued with a fixed charged penalty notice in the St. Johnston area after they were detected travelling at 125 km/h in 80 km/h speed zone.
While in a 50 km/h speed limit area, two Sligo motorists were caught travelling at 82 and 78 km/h respectively.
Gardaí conducted speed checks on drivers across the country for a 24-hour period from 7 o’clock on Friday morning as part of National Slow Down Day.
During the 24-hour period of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speed of 169,361 vehicles and detected 408 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
