Funding has been approved to support a variety of Women’s groups in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, announced the grant for almost 500 Women’s Groups nationwide as part of the Local Enhancement Project 2024.
Under the initiative, small grants are being provided to assist groups through the enhancement and improvement of their facilities and to purchase equipment.
The total funding is just over €23,650 for 19 Sligo groups, €18.661.66 for 14 Leitrim groups, and €41,170 for 20 Donegal groups.
The groups that are receiving funding include Women’s and Hen’s Sheds, Camogie and GAA Clubs, ICA Groups, Toddler Groups, Girl Guides and more.
The Local Enhancement Programme allocated €6 million for community groups and organisations, with €1 million of it ring-fenced for women’s groups.
Minister Humphreys has said that although the grant “may be small in value but to the successful groups they are invaluable”.
