NPHET recommended the closure of non-essential retail

Restaurants and pubs serving food across the north nwest will close at 3 o'clock this afternoon as part of new restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The measures will also see hairdressers and barbers shut later today - as health officials warn the virus is "out of control".

The 5-day average of cases is now 785 and the R number is between 1.5 and 1.8 - the highest it's been since March.

NPHET met yesterday and have recommended the government close non-essential retail from St. Stephen's Day.
