The National Union of Journalists has asked the owners of the Donegal Democrat newspaper to reconsider laying off some of its staff.
Iconic Newspapers has proposed to cut three reporters in recent weeks.
But the NUJ said the company must halt the proposed redundancies and negotiate with the union.
The union have contacted the company to seek talks but has not received a formal response from Iconic.
