O'Boyle says government not doing enough to clip vulture funds

A Sligo councillor says the Government's proposed plans to deter and limit the ability of investment funds to buy up housing do not go far enough.

New changes include a 10% increase in stamp duty on the purchases of ten or more properties over a 12 month period. Apartments will be exempt.

Local authorities will have to designate a certain percentage – up to 50% – of houses and duplexes in a development to be made available for owner occupiers.

But Sligo Solidarity People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle says housing is not being made available to the growing number of people who need it.
