A year of celebration marking Sligo's selection as the European capital of volunteering for 2017 will start on Friday, January 27th.
An opening ceremony on that date will include a night of music and entertainment.
Previous European capitals of volunteering were London, Lisbon and Barcelona.
But while the selection of Sligo this year is seen as a major honour, it will also cost money.
