A petition, which has garnered over 26,000 signatures calling for a greenway on the closed railway between Sligo and Galway, is set to be discussed by an Oireachtas Committee later today.
The Committee will hear how plans are progressing in Sligo as it relates to the project and it has full support from Sligo County Council.
However it's claimed that Mayo County Council is hampering progress.
In a statement, The Western Rail Trail campaign say that Sligo County Council share in their vision of a greenway from Collooney in Sligo to Athenry until such time as a railway is possible.
Mayo county council on the other hand they say have refused to listen to the people of East Mayo.
