A status orange high fire risk warning has been issued for County Sligo.
Sligo County Council have issued the alert and it’s in place from now until 12 noon on Friday.
Communities across Sligo are urged to exercise caution during this phase of extremely dry weather.
People are being reminded that it’s an offence to cut, grub, burn or otherwise destroy any vegetation growing on any land not then cultivated between 1st March and 31st August in any year.
Residents are also being asked to report all suspicious or illegal activity to Gardai immediately.
Landowners found burning illegally could face fines, imprisonment and Single Farm Payment penalties, where applicable.
Finally, if there is a fire, do not delay in reporting it to the fire service and do not assume somebody else will.
Sligo County Council will not bill the person for making the call.
