Over 10 million containers returned in North West businesses

Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have together seen over 10 million containers returned at local Centra and Supervalu outlets in the last 12 months.

Since the introduction of the Deposit Return Scheme, the three counties have seen 50 reverse vending machines installed between the two supermarkets.

Sligo has seen nearly five million containers returned throughout 16 RVMs, Leitrim have had over 1 million bottles deposited between 8 machines and over 5 million containers spread across 26 deposit machines have been returned in County Donegal.

Over the last year, Ireland has seen a total of 210 million containers returned nationwide.

Local business owner and board member of Sligo BID, Finbarr Filan has called it a “great success” for the environment.
