Over 60 North West applications for XL Bully exemptions

Over 60 applications were made in the north west to keep XL Bully dogs.

 

A ban on the animals was ruled into law in October 2024 and came into effect on February 1st.

Penalties for breaching the ban include fines of up to €2,500 or imprisonment for up to three months while unregistered dogs will be euthanised.

 

The local authority in Donegal received 35 applications for certificates of exemption, 19 were received in Sligo, while in Leitrim the figure was 8.
