Over €8 million paid to Sligo landlords in 2023

Sligo County Council paid out a total of 8.4 million euros to landlords over the year of 2023.

The payment was received through the Housing Assistance Programme, the Rental Accommodation Scheme, and the Long Term Social Housing Leasing Scheme.

Sligo Councillor Declan Bree revealed the report and criticised the government's actions of putting millions “into private landlords pockets.”

He says this in turn, has caused young people and those on lower incomes to "suffer the most."
